Small Foundation partners with the Refugee Investment Network to support more effective capital deployment for displaced communities in Southern Africa

Small Foundation is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Refugee Investment Network (RIN), a global organisation working to mobilise capital in support of refugees and the communities that host them.

RIN is helping redefine how refugees are understood within economic systems, not as beneficiaries of aid alone, but as active participants in markets and as contributors to local economies.

RIN is building the case for a more inclusive and effective approach to capital deployment. They do so by connecting investors, businesses, and philanthropic actors to refugee owned and led business, as well as companies and funds which include refugees in their operations, supply chains and portfolios.  RIN’s work reflects this ambition, bringing together actors across the full capital continuum, including foundations, impact investors, institutional investors, commercial investors, DFIs, policymakers, and humanitarian organisations.

Through this partnership, Small Foundation will support RIN to deepen engagement across its network, with a particular focus on Zambia and the Southern Africa region. The partnership aims to strengthen collaboration among regional and global actors, and to advance shared learning to support the growth of refugee investment in the region. This includes expanding the adoption of the Refugee Lens Investing Framework, developed by RIN and its members to help investors assess and classify how investments can benefit refugees.

By shifting how investors understand and engage with displaced communities in Southern Africa, the partnership seeks to unlock more inclusive, sustainable economic opportunities at scale across Southern Africa.

RIN’s partnership with Small Foundation reflects a shared belief that refugees are not only in need of support but are also entrepreneurs, workers, consumers, and contributors to thriving local economies. We are excited to work together to expand the adoption of Refugee Lens Investing and help unlock refugee self-reliance through more inclusive, sustainable investment opportunities in Zambia and across Southern Africa.”
