A new cohort of 26 fellows from 22 countries has been announced to join the Next Generation Foresight Practitioners (NGFP) network. Following a highly competitive process that saw over 1,100 expressions of interest, these emerging foresight practitioners join a global network of over 600 people using futures and foresight to create positive impact and systemic transformation in their communities and beyond.
Small Foundation has partnered with NGFP’s parent organisation School of International Futures (SOIF) on many initiatives over the years, most recently in 2022 commencing a multi-year partnership to support NGFP Africa. This regional network fosters leadership development, enhances skills, and provides opportunity for connections and collaborations across emerging issues, such as rural futures, digitisation, good governance and health.
Of the 26 new global fellows, four join NGFP Africa, coming from Nigeria, Cameroon, Zimbabwe and Uganda. These fellows include:
- Abigael Anaza-Mark who is facilitating intergenerational dialogues to promote positive attitudes towards STEM amongst young girls so they can be the innovators and inventors of the future;
- Kenneth Nsah working with youth from the Congo Basin countries to craft narratives of the future that can lead to more concrete climate action and efforts to protect biodiversity;
- Sandile Mtetwa whose project seeks to understand what the future of energy access and security in Zimbabwe would look like if clean energy generation projects were civilian led;
- Solophina Nekesa & Jehan Bikhoo who will collaboratively explore, with young designers and urban practitioners, future visions for African cities.
Over the next 12 months the global fellows will undertake a journey of personal and professional development with their peers. NGFP provide them with mentorship support, foresight training and capacity building, funding opportunities, and connections to a network of policy makers, experts and futurists.
