Small Foundation partners with the Uganda Agribusiness Alliance

Small Foundation is very pleased to announce our new partnership with the Uganda Agribusiness Alliance (UAA). UAA is a not-for-profit members’ organisation that works with stakeholders to identify and coordinate solutions to unlock the potential of agribusiness development in Uganda.

Since inception in 2014, UAA has built a positive and practical shared agenda for sustainable agribusiness industry growth in Uganda. Today UAA has 47 institutional members and works with ecosystem partners including national and international development agencies and the Government of Uganda. UAA supports the development of a thriving commercial agribusiness sector in Uganda for inclusive economic growth, with the overall aim of poverty reduction and a better quality of life for Ugandans at every link across diverse agricultural value chains.

This vision is driven by UAA’s committed and ambitious team, led by CEO Edward Katende.

UAA convenes stakeholders around thematic areas: access to agricultural finance by value chain actors of all sizes; improving compliance with sanitary and phytosanitary standards in the fruit and vegetable export value chains; access to and sustainable use of land; and value chain development. UAA is also working with industry to enhance human capital development and youth engagement in agribusiness.

Most recently, UAA is providing technical support to a diverse team of experts advising the Ugandan government on how best to engage agribusiness in the country’s efforts to eradicate poverty by improving household incomes especially in rural areas, as well as contribute to the country’s economic resilience and development, during and post the COVID-19 pandemic.

This partnership is part of Small Foundation’s network practice in East Africa and our overall portfolio of work on supporting collaborative networks. Working closely with partners Converge and Creative Metier, Small Foundation supports the leadership and membership engagement of mission-aligned African networks seeking to increase sustainability and amplify cross-cutting, ecosystem-level impact.
