Empowering rural economies: the 8th World Congress on Rural Finance

This week marks the launch of the 8th World Congress on Rural and Agricultural Finance. Hosted by Small Foundation’s long-standing partner AFRACA, the 8th World Congress is a key global event focused on advancing financial solutions that uplift rural communities and agricultural enterprises.

For Small Foundation, the World Congress provides an opportunity for us to share about our work in supporting the rural African MSME ecosystem. In partnership with AFRACA, we are pleased to be contributing to the programme of events:

  • Our Investment Director, Andrew Tarazid-Tarawali will host a conversation with our partners in The Alternative Bank and Vista Bank Sierra Leone on the theme of Catalysing Rural Resilience: Financing Innovations for Agri-SMEs through Local Institutions
  • Alex Simuyandi, Principal at Emerald Africa, will steer a dialogue across Emerald Africa portfolio companies Pumpkn and CoAmana, alongside the Climate Policy Initiative and NCBA, on the theme of The Role of Digital Lenders in Financing Local Agribusiness Value Chains in Africa
  • Together with representatives from UNDP, CIAT, AFD, the Agri PDB Platform and GGGI, Thomas Caffrey Osvald, Small Foundation’s Networks and Systems Lead, will join a conversation hosted by AFRACA on Building Synergies Between Development Partners and Rural and Agricultural Credit Associations for Inclusiveness and Impact in Agrifood Systems Networks.

We are excited for this opportunity to connect and exchange knowledge across this convening of key ecosystem players, as together we seek to drive sustainable growth across rural African economies.
